Managing the message -
Positive publicity - Favourable news about your business in the local, national or trade press will boost your profile and increase your customer base. Good publicity in trusted media is a powerful tool for building recognition with
potential customers, suppliers and investors. Like word-of-mouth recommendation,
it is usually considered more credible than advertising and it can be achieved
for next to nothing.
'Spin' - In public relations, spin is a form of propaganda, achieved through providing an interpretation of an event or campaign to persuade public opinion in favour or against a certain organization or public figure. While traditional public relations may also rely on creative presentation of the facts, "spin" often, though not always, implies disingenuous, deceptive and/or highly manipulative tactics.
Damage limitation- Coping when the proverbial hits the fan (a bad news story perhaps)
Organising events- The events industry has grown over the last ten years and work can be found within a range of industries working on everything from corporate events and conferences to weddings and live music events. As part of the role you can be expected to be involved with the planning and execution of events, dealing with all the details that lead up to the day such as venues, catering, organising staff and the days schedule as well as being on hand on the day making sure the event runs smoothly. You will need to be highly organised and great with people, be confident and a good leader as well as having a passion for events and a creative flair. You'll also have to be able to work well under pressure and keep a cool head - being able to rectify any crisis that the day's events have to throw at you.
Lobbying- Lobbying is the act of attempting to influence decisions made by officials in the government, most often legislators or members of regulatory agencies.
